Itinerary

Meet your expert guide at in front of the Blimpie's sandwich shop on the corner of East 13th Street and Fourth Avenue for your Slice of Brooklyn Pizza Tour.

This is a small group tour. You will travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with your English-speaking driver/ guide to sample some of the best pizza in New York. Italian immigrants to Brooklyn brought the iconic pizza with them and it became one of the world’s favorite foods.

As well as sampling mouth-watering pizzas, you’ll also enjoy a multimedia sightseeing tour of Brooklyn's neighborhoods, parks, landmarks and famous movie locations. As you drive up to the movie locations you’ll be able to watch the relevant film clips on TV monitors in your vehicle. Your entertaining local guide will also give you the inside track on Brooklyn-born celebrities past and present.

First stop is at Grimaldi’s at around 12 noon, an extremely popular restaurant specializing in Neapolitan pizzas. The queues here are legendary but you’ll be able to ‘skip the line’! Grimaldi’s pizzas are made in a brick oven and have a thin, crisp (usually round) crust. Take a bite and you’ll know you are in ‘pizza heaven’! You can enjoy a soft drink with your choice of pizza.

Your next gourmet experience will be at L&B Spumoni Gardens restaurant, and you will arrive here at about 1.30pm. This famous pizzeria specializes in authentic Sicilian pizzas.

Sicilian pizzas in New York are usually square, with dough over an inch thick. They are often served on an aluminum baking sheet.

L&B Spumoni Gardens opened in 1939 when Ludovico Barbati emigrated from Naples, the home of the pizza. Before opening the pizzeria, Barbati used to travel around Brooklyn selling his homemade water ice and spumoni (rich layers of pistachio and chocolate) from a horse-drawn carriage. His restaurant’s acclaimed pizzas have cheese on the bottom and a tangy tomato sauce on top. Again you can enjoy a complimentary soft drink with your delicious slices of pizza.
