Today, the Williamsburg neighborhood in Brooklyn is defined as the epicenter of cool. But, this was not always the case. The neighborhood has undergone a lot of changes since it was first created as a suburb of New York. The opening of the Williamsburg Bridge in 1903 brought a lot of new industries, as well as second-generation Americans wanting to escape poverty and overcrowded living conditions of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Then, during World War II, Europeans fleeing war came. Later, many artists came to Williamsburg because of the cheap rent and its proximity to Manhattan. In a way, this started the gentrification process in the mid- 1990s. Now, Williamsburg has become a favorite hunting ground for music-lovers and foodies.

Start your whirlwind foodie tour at a traditional Polish bakery, where you will try delicious pierogis and pastries. Then, enjoy pizza that come highly recommended by the New York Times. Next, dive into a mouth watering carnitas taco or black bean + sweet potato taco and sandia (watermelon agua fresca) at Tacombi Taco. Afterwards, savor and take home delicious chocolates made in house from this family owned Dominican artisanal chocolate maker. Next up, a native Kentuckian cooks authentic BBQ using his grandmother’s recipes. And, they have excellent vegetarian options, too! Along the way, you’ll also get to see cool street art and author Henry Miller’s home. At Levain Bakery- enjoy a delicious monster cookie from the famous Levain!  Once you have completed the tour, you can say you have seen everything there is to see and eaten everything there is to eat in Williamsburg.
