Overview

Get off the main tourist trail and enter the world of fine Venetian craftsmanship on the quaint islands of Murano and Burano!

Step into the Golden Age of Venetian glass at the Venice Glass Museum! View exhibits containing Roman glass artworks from the first century A.D., contemporary pieces, and everything in between! Here, you can see works from the 1400’s by Angelo Barovier, inventor of clear glass. Also on display are glass masterpieces decorated with diamond-point engravings by Vincenzo d’Angelo dal Gallo in the 1500’s. If you have a fondness for Venetian glass, then the Venice Glass Museum is a must-see attraction!

If Leonardo da Vinci travelled all the way to Burano in 1481 just to buy a lace cloth for the main alter of the Duomo di Milano, it’s probably an island worth checking out! And, at the Venice Lace Museum, you’ll get a good sense of why, for several centuries, Venetian lace was all the rage in Europe! Impossibly intricate designs from the 1500’s and later are exhibited here. And, with films about Burano lace point, illustrated explanations, and even some modern day lace-makers on hand, you will learn everything you ever wanted to know about Venetian lace.

It’s a true two-for-one ticket into the heart of Venetian culture!
