Activity Overview

Take a comprehensive tour of Antoni Gaudi’s ongoing masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia and learn the history behind the iconic landmark of Barcelona with the Sagrada Familia Guided Tour.

Started in 1882, the Sagrada Familia, meaning the Holy Family, is due to be completed in 2030 and the entrance fees collected from visitors to the monument is the main source of funding for the completion of the Gaudi’s prodigious vision.

During the course of the tour, the guide proficient in English and Spanish, will tell you the story of the Basilica, from its conception by Josep Maria Bocabella to how Gaudí came to lead the project and the frustrations and hardships it caused him in his final years.

The most visited monument in Spain, the Sagrada Familia has been under construction for over 100 years. Architect Antoni Gaudi envisioned the building of the church as a reflection of his own spiritual and nationalist expression and became obsessed with the project. He devoted his final fifteen years to the construction of church and its elaborate facades that would represent the birth, death and resurrection of Christ. Gaudi only lived to see the completions of the one façade, one tower, the apse and the crypt before his death in 1926.

Take in the immense beauty of the monument complete with colourful columns, intricate stained glass windows, soaring arches and decorated interiors which represent branches and trees. The guide will share tales of Gaudí’s love affair with his final work, how he considered the project his personal holy mission and the great personal sacrifices he made to ensure its completion.

Your tour ends at Sagrada Familia, after which you are free to explore on your own.
