The ‘City of Gold’ is waiting to be explored on a hop-on hop-off Johannesburg bus tour. No hassle of arranging your own transportation or exploring the new city on foot. Simply hop on the double-decker bus to enjoy a unique perspective of the city and enjoy the flexibility to skip the attractions that you don’t want to check. It is one of the best things to do in Johannesburg if you are looking to save time and extra bucks.
Great to see Johannesburg from that point of view. Took my American friends on it and they really enjoyed it. Wish we had more time to do Soweto
Have already given my thoughts!
Clean buses and bus frequency was good.
South Africa’s largest city, Johannesburg was established in 1886 when gold was accidentally discovered on a farm. This led to an exponential increase in population within years. Today, Johannesburg is a bustling metropolis and the most populous city in South Africa after Cairo.
The city also earned the title ‘City of Gold’ for obvious reasons. It is estimated that Johannesburg has half the world’s human fossils. The Hillbrow Tower is the tallest building in Africa standing at a height of whopping 270 meters.
Make sure to book your tickets in advance during the peak tourist season to avoid last-minute disappointment. Also, carry your best walking shoes to explore its elaborate caves, museums and other prominent attractions.
March to May and September to November are the best months to plan a visit to Johannesburg and explore its key attractions. The weather is relatively warm and comfortable during this time. If you are on a budget, you can visit during the shoulder season from April to September after summers have ended and the crowd is gone.
We recommend spending 2 to 3 days exploring Johannesburg and its beautiful neighbourhood.
Johannesburg bus tour offers you the convenience and flexibility to get off at the nearest designated stop. No tour guide, you set your own itinerary. You’ll find all the stops are located strategically at all the major attractions, making your touring as hassle-free as possible. And then, when you’re ready to continue, return to a designated bus stop, show your pass, and hop back on the bus and onwards towards your next attraction. So, go ahead and make a whole loop of the route once you have your tour ticket, get familiar with the city and pick out your favorite places to visit and then return to them during your stay.
There are several ticket options available to you, depending on your length of stay. Each bus tour will have validity from 24, 36, 48 to 72 hours. And the great thing is you can plan ahead as the vouchers are valid anywhere between 6 months to 1 year and can be used at any point during that period.
