Very nice experience, so much fun!!
Wonderful tour on paper and great value for the money. Think it is the best offer out there. Unfortunately the weather was deplorable with heavy rain, strong winds and cold temps. Fortunately they provided rain ponchos, but they offered little protection on the open top deck, and the buses were always very full. Once the bottom was full we had no option but to go up. Salsalito was completely fogged in. Alcatraz was amazing and certainly a highlight for us. Don't miss the audio tour which is included. Sorry we didn't see much of this beautiful city until our last day, when we ventured out on our own in the sunshine. Do try the hop on/off. Has always been a great option for us in other cities all over the world, as it allows you the get a great overview of a new city.
The first time I got on this bus, our guide Mark was absolutely fantastic! He went over safety rules and a lot of little things that weren't in the prerecorded guide (like how the Millennium Tower was just on the news last week, or which buildings are under construction right now). I was sad to find that the next couple of buses I got on only had drivers, no guides, and there was a recording to listen to instead (which was still informative but not as fun or memorable as Mark was). The drivers on the other buses did not seem concerned about safety or people walking around while the bus was in motion, which was a little unnerving. I am still giving this 5 stars because of how awesome Mark was, and because this tour had more stops on it than the other ones I looked at. It also stopped right in front of my hotel, making it super easy to get back at the end of the day. The walking tour tickets are good for more than one day, if you stay in town that long, so it is a pretty good deal.
The cultural center of North California, San Francisco is known for its universities, Golden Gate Bridge, diverse culture, historical buildings, rolling hills, eclectic architecture, and more. The Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz island have a rich history that can be further explored with a combo ticket of Big Bus.
The hop-on hop-off tours will take you to the federal prison in Alcatraz which had been home to Al Capone. You can also opt to rent a bike with the ticket to explore the city on your own terms. The Skyline Sightseeing San Francisco also accompanies a 60-minute cruise for surreal views of the coastal areas. Alternatively, you can also take a guided tour of the Muir Woods to witness over 1000 years old redwood trees.
September to November is the best time to visit San Francisco. The city experiences warmer temperatures and a plethora of street fairs. Since there is no rain, it is an apt time to enjoy outdoor activities.
