Overview

Embark on a London tour with a difference and catch a glimpse of wartime London in the company of a knowledgeable guide! Immerse yourself in the historic events of WW2 as you explore the Westminster district and discover the secret bunker that Prime Minister Winston Churchill and his government used during the German bombing campaigns.

Walk around some of London’s most historic sites, such as 10 Downing Street, the Houses of Parliament, and Westminster Abbey. See the Cenotaph, built as a memorial to the First World War, and now the UK’s primary national war memorial. Take pictures with the statue of Sir Winston Churchill and the Monument to the Women of World War II and hear stories about the war and its historic moments.

Listen to audio-guide commentary while exploring the wartime bunker of the Churchill War Rooms, the nerve centre of Churchill’s war efforts, where he and the British cabinet prepared for the defeat of Hitler.

Itinerary

Meet your tour at the meeting point, 15 minutes before the scheduled time. The explorative walking tour of Westminster starts with a walk around the city’s most historically significant sites like 10 Downing Street, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. The last stop is the intriguing Cenotaph, originally a memorial for the First World War and now the UK’s main war memorial. You can also stop and click pictures with the statues of Sir Winston Churchill and that of the women of WWII.

The Westminster district bore the worst brunt of the WW2 bombings and for good reason. It was home to major undercover activity by the government in exile, overseas forces, spies and counterspies. Westminster was also home to the wartime bunker of Churchill and his government during the blitz of London.

The tour includes a visit to the Churchill War Rooms, where you can enjoy an audio-guided tour of the nerve centre of Churchill’s war efforts. Explore the underground labyrinth independently, listen to audio recordings of Churchill’s inspiring war time speeches and get a glimpse into his special relationship with Roosevelt.

Learn about how life continued underground, know about the frenzied wartime activities and top-secret conversations between Churchill and Roosevelt in the Transatlantic Telephone Room. Tour the Churchill Museum and learn about the maze of underground rooms that were used to plot and plan war strategies.

Stay as long as you like before making your way out at your own time.
